A message from the coaches.
The following is information regarding the week zero event that we will be attending this coming Saturday...week zero is almost upon us... STEAMWORKS Week Zero Event-Nevis High School. Schedule is linked here. Team members who have completed a minimum of 30 hours of working time for the season are eligible to attend the Week Zero Event at Nevis High School this Saturday, February 18th. We will be departing from the front of Esko High School promptly at 5:15 am on Saturday morning so please plan to be at the high school (ready to go) by 5:00 AM. We are traveling to Nevis High School, 210 Pleasant St, Nevis, MN 564567 Please plan to wear your t-shirt and bring money for food and/or a packed lunch with snacks. The concession stand will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items. 8:00 - 6:00 pm. A Build Update (and request) from the Coaches:
Core team members have put a lot of work into moving the team forward since kickoff. We have a group that has the potential to take this team a long way this year! Since the reveal on Saturday the team has been immersed in game strategy and Ri3d (Robot in 3 Days). The students have done their research and have come up with several ideas for each element of the robot. The programmers have been equally busy and are doing things that we, if we are honest, don't understand but are very excited about :). The business department has been sending out packets to potential sponsors; the graphic design students have been working to finalize a logo, and the food department has been keeping us fed and are planning a fundraiser for February! On Saturday, at 8 am, we will be meeting in the shop to build several of the field elements required for this year's game. We could really use as much help as possible as this is a young team and most members don't have fabrication experience. We are encouraging all team members to come, even if they aren't planning to build, so that they can work on several of the other projects that need to be completed this season. Parents and Mentors, if you are available to help supervise, it would be appreciated! If anyone has a truck that could be used to haul the supplies to school from Menards, please contact Coach Scheider ([email protected]). Kickoff is here! The bus will depart for UMD from the front of the High School at 7:45AM on Saturday morning. After the reveal video wraps up and the team gets their kit of parts, we will head over to Marshall School for some collaborative strategizing with other teams. The team will return to the High School at about 2:30 and work for a while after that.
The Coaches ask team members to bring their iPads if they can for writing things down or pulling up manuals and such. The food department will be selling meal tickets for this upcoming build season, starting on Tuesday December 13th through Thursday December 22nd. Each ticket will cover one meal or snack with a drink. Money can be turned into Mr Scheider.
The base cost of this is $20 for 20 meal tickets; each additional ticket is $1 each. Meal tickets purchased after December 22nd, will cost $2 per ticket (There is no base number of tickets that must be purchased). Meals or snacks will be provided almost every day during the build season. Most of the nights that meals or snacks are provided there will be an alternate to the main meal. See this link for the 2016-17 SubZero Robotics important dates. Check back often for new events.
